AWARDS
Nurse-Family Partnership Team recognized by Hamilton City Manager's Office: The Nurse - Family Partnership Team (including 2 ANDSOOHA members: Dianne Busser and Debbie Sheehan) in the Family Health Division were awarded the inaugural City Manager’s Award for Hamilton Public Service Excellence in November 2010. Award recipients must have made an extraordinary contribution to the City’s mission and success and have demonstrated outstanding service and /or innovation and have enhanced our City’s reputation through their excellent work. The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a nurse home visitation program for young, low-income, first-time mothers, starting prenatally and continuing until children are two years old. It was developed by Dr. David Olds and evaluated in three US-based randomized-controlled trials (RCTs). The trial results indicate that the NFP is a cost-effective public health intervention with demonstrated enduring effectiveness in high-risk populations -improving pregnancy outcomes, improving child mental and physical health and developmental outcomes, and increasing maternal economic self-sufficiency. Internationally, the NFP has been identified as the intervention with the best evidence for preventing child maltreatment. Hamilton has the distinction of being the first Canadian site to pilot the NFP.
